Watercolory humpback whale mother & her male calf <3
Did you know humpback whales are mostly solitary marine mammals and will only travel with others of their kind for short periods? The only circumstance in which a humpback whale will travel with another of its kind for a long period (a year) is when a mother is with her baby. Humpback whales are known to have some of the most complex and beautiful songs of the whale kingdom. Additionally, they have been discovered by researchers to be the "heroes" and protectors of the ocean all across the world, saving other animals such as sea lions, fish, dolphins, and other whales from orcas hunting them. It is not known why they do this.
